Ward Roney Jr. VFW Post 7511 is proud to support programs that honor veterans, encourage youth, recognize outstanding community members, and create opportunities for connection and involvement.

From the Veterans Art Council and VFW Offroaders – Chapter 2 to youth scholarship programs including Voice of Democracy, Patriot’s Pen, and the Youth Essay Contest, our programs provide opportunities to connect, participate, and make a difference.

We also proudly recognize those who serve and inspire our community through the Teacher of the Year and Public Servant Awards.

Veteran's Art Council

The Veterans Art Council provides a welcoming and creative space at VFW Post 7511 where veterans can create, connect, and showcase their artwork.

The program gives veteran artists an opportunity to share their talents, express their creativity, and connect with fellow veterans and the community through the arts.

VFW Offroaders - Chapter 2

The VFW Offroaders – Chapter 2 brings VFW and Auxiliary members together through a shared love of off-roading, outdoor adventure, and camaraderie.

It’s about building friendships, strengthening connections, and enjoying the trails together.

Voice of Democracy

The Voice of Democracy is the VFW’s scholarship program for students in grades 9–12, encouraging them to share their thoughts on democracy and patriotism through an original recorded audio essay.

Students compete for scholarships and awards at the local, state, and national levels.

Patriot's Pen

Patriot’s Pen is the VFW’s national essay competition for students in grades 6–8, encouraging young people to share their thoughts on an annual patriotic theme.

Students compete for recognition and scholarship awards while developing their writing skills and exploring what patriotism, service, and citizenship mean to them.

Youth Essay

Each year, students in grades 3-5 enter the Department of Washington Youth Essay contest for a chance to win state awards.

The contest encourages our youth to examine history, along with their own beliefs, by drafting an essay of no more than 250 words, expressing their views based on a theme chosen by the Department of Washington VFW.

To submit your essay, find your sponsoring local VFW Post as applications must be turned in by midnight, Oct. 31. Click here for more program details.

Teacher of the Year

The VFW Teacher of the Year Program recognizes exceptional educators who go above and beyond to teach students about citizenship, American history, patriotism, and the sacrifices of our nation’s veterans.

Through their dedication and creativity, these teachers help inspire the next generation to understand and appreciate the values and freedoms that shape our nation.

Public Servants Award

The VFW Public Servant Awards recognize outstanding emergency medical personnel, dispatchers, law enforcement officers, and firefighters who demonstrate exceptional service and dedication to our community.

These awards honor the courage, commitment, and selflessness of those who work every day to serve and protect others.
